The department of aircraft design and engineering was founded in 2017 after the major of aircraft design and engineering opened in 2016. The department takes the design and engineering application of civil aircraft as the main professional development direction, and has filled the gap of aviation specialty in Southwest Jiaotong University.
Currently, there are 23 teachers engaged in aerospace teaching and research, including 8 professors, 15 associate professors and lecturers. The department is mainly responsible for the teaching and professional construction of theoretical mechanics, vibration mechanics, fluid mechanics and other basic courses for undergraduate, master's and doctoral students in aerospace, civil engineering, machinery, materials, electrical, mechanics, etc.
