Introduction to Postgraduate Training
1. Brief Introduction to School of Mechanics and Engineering
The school has 82 faculty members, including 26 professors, 19 associate professors and 4 senior engineers. Among the full-time teachers, 88.3% have doctoral degrees and 68.3% have overseas experience.
The school has the fist-level authorization point to master and doctor. At present, the college has 776 students, including 609 undergraduates, 167 master students (including 1 international student) and 102 doctoral students. After more than 60 years of educational practice, adhering to the one hundred double strict tradition of "rigorous scholarship, strict requirements", with the national teaching team led by national teaching masters and the Yangtze river scholars as the main force, with the national teaching resources as the guarantee, based on national and provincial platform, the school has formed the school running characteristics and advantages centered on student’s learning and development, focusing on cultivating "strong foundation, emphasis on practice" inter-disciplinary talent.

3. Advisor Team
The school has established a high-level mentor selection mechanism, requiring the doctoral advisor with a doctorate, taking charge of national-level project and publishing SCI papers in high-level international journal; the selection of doctoral tutors is separated from their posts, and the doctoral tutors should publish SCI papers in the past five years, and the research funds should meet certain amount, the proportion of doctoral advisor on post is about 85% in the past three years; the school encourage excellent tutors to recruit more excellent students, and limit the recruitment of irresponsible tutors; the school is to strengthen the training of young mentors, and require young mentors to have the experience of assisting and guiding doctoral students before they can take up their posts to guide doctoral students.
At present, there are 20 doctoral advisors and 39 master advisors. There are 1 "double employment" academician of Chinese Academy of engineering, 1 distinguished professor and 1 lecture professor of "Yangtze River Scholar", 2 National distinguished professors, 1 winner of National Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 leading talents of national "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 1 national famous teacher, 1 national outstanding educator, 2 members of Teaching Guidance Committee of Ministry of Education, and 3 New Century Outstanding Talents of Ministry of Education, 1 person who has been selected for the "Youth Talent Promotion Project" of China Association for Science and Technology, 6 academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 1 expert with outstanding contribution in Sichuan Province, 8 winners of Sichuan thousand talents program, 1 Tianfu famous teacher of Sichuan Province in "Tianfu Ten Thousand Talents Program", 3 famous teachers of Sichuan Province in teaching and education, and 3 German "Humboldt Scholars".
4. Scientific Research
Based on the Applied Mechanics and Structure Safety of Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province and Youth Science and Technology Innovation Team of Sichuan Province, the school has formed six characteristic research directions such as constitutive relation of mechanics under complex conditions, safety assessment of mechanics damage and structure, nonlinear kinetics and stability theory, fluid-structure coupling dynamics, computational mechanics, innovative and cross mechanics. In recent five years, the school has taken charge of 55 national research projects which include 1 project funded by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 key projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 28 projects funded by General Program of NSFC and 16 projects funded by Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; The school has undertaken 20 ministerial and provincial projects and 172 consultancy projects, with a total fund of over 78 million CNY. In addition, the school faculty has published more than 300 SCI papers, among which one professor has been selected by Elsevier (mechanics of materials) as one of the most cited Chinese researchers for 6 consecutive years and 7 papers were selected as by the most cited list of ESI. During recent years, the school has been awarded 2 second prize of nature science granted by Ministry of Education (MOE), 1 prize of Sichuan Science Technology Improvement Award and 1 prize of Youth Science and Technology Award by Chinese Society of Mechanics.
5. International cooperation and exchanges
We dedicate to international cooperation and exchanges. Currently, we have established academic cooperation with dozens of world-renowned universities and research institutes, such as the University of Michigan, the University of Paris VI, the Technical University of Munich, Purdue University, Monash University, etc. We also have developed joint postgraduate programs with Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, the University of Sydney, etc. With the Top& Innovative Talents program, Top postgraduate students can have short-term visits to universities like Imperial College London, Chiba University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, etc. The above programs cover postgraduate students of all grades. In the past three years, a total of 11 students have successfully applied for CSC scholarship sponsored by the China Scholarship Council.
6. Talent training system
We have established a high-quality postgraduate training system, through steps and subsystems like recruiting outstanding students, supervision system, requirements of high-level papers for graduation, award system and supervisor selection system. The supervision system is constructed as "proposal + mid-term assessment + pre defense of dissertation", hence to comprehensively enhance the research and innovation capabilities of the postgraduate students. As a result of our talent training system, the number of SCI recorded papers of our doctoral students ranked the first of the university, in the year of 2019.
